As the year 2021 ended, this word was on my mind. The past two years, in particular, have challenged us both personally and professionally and have encouraged me to look at ways to respond more nimbly, as Marc Andreesson mentioned in the quote above, to the ever-changing landscape that is the world of shooting sports. As recently as early fall, I was committed to no new rulebook for our sport, no changes in our rules, and no Appendix in the Waistband (AIWB) offering. That changed, however, when our US Regional Area Coordinator Leads Rick Lund and Brian Ehrler approached me with the idea of updating our rulebook. So that we could get more member feedback, we produced a survey asking you, our members, how you carry and if you wanted to see the sport adopt this method. The results, published on Jan. 5th, showed us that, of our members who completed the survey, 48% carry AIWB, and while 68% favor adopting AIWB 32% are not in favor. “There is the opportunity to do more and better if you're smaller and more nimble.” Director’s Letter 4 We work hard to stay connected to our members via our website and social media channels. We have heard what our members have said, specifically about AIWB, and are looking at how to implement that change in our 2022 Rule Book. Under the leadership of Rick and Brian, feedback has been collected from the aforementioned social media channels, our Area Coordinators and International Points of Contact, and match data, that has given us feedback for the changes that will be included in the 2022 Rule Book, updated MAR and appendices. These documents will be digital only and posted on our website, so that we can be more nimble in response to changing carry methods, equipment, and best practices for our sport. We have also been planning for the 2022 IDPA National Championship. MD Seth Hayden and AMDs Noel Gardner and Frank Strong are finding delightful ways to test you in Grand Junction, CO this fall. Prepare for the challenge and fun of the 14 stages and 2 warm-up stages they will present Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 22nd-24th. Our website redesign moves forward and I am happy about some of the back end features and reporting that will grant us, again, the opportunity to be nimble and respond to our administrative challenges quickly. This reporting will allow better insight for our leaders so that they can help build and strengthen clubs and offer help where it is needed. The great ammunition shortage of the past 18 months, while easing a little, has left us with higher prices. To provide some relief for our members, we have partnered with a company to offer an Airsoft Kit, at an affordable price, through the IDPA ProShop. While we will not be using these for sanctioned matches in most of the world, it would be one way to allow all of us to keep our skills sharp without breaking the bank. For pricing and availability, check our Pro Shop. With all of these exciting changes and fresh ideas, I am looking forward to a great year in IDPA, and I hope you are, too. 7 Next >
